Chapter 15 News and Updates

February 6th, 2015

Hello everyone;

Thought I’d send a note to bring everyone up to date with what’s happening around the chapter.

First, a reminder that we’ll have a chapter meeting on February 26th, 19:00 hrs at Signature Flight Support, New Century Air Center. Put the meeting on your calendars and try to be there. We’ll review some preliminary plans for our contest in
August; trying to get an early start some items. Also we’ll view the new Bob Hoover movie, “Flying the Feathered Edge”.

Dave Main has organized a formation ground school and he has a preliminary plan for flying as well. The formation school will be held April 11th at 9:00am at the Gardner airport in the Vintage Chapter 16 hangar. More details will follow later. Put the April 11th on your calendars.

While we don’t schedule play days in the Winter months, we none-the-less, do have a few good days for flying in the Winter. If anyone is interested I can activate the aerobatic box on a relatively short notice and we can gather for a spin in the box.

That’s all for now. See you at 7pm, Monday, 26th at IXD.

K.C.Barnstormer Contest

September 5th, 2014

Hello everyone. We had a fairly successful day of registering for the Barnstormer contest. A couple of weather delays for practice in the box. I know the weather was a factor for some planning to make the trip to IXD. We will definitely accommodate late arrivals Saturday if you still care to make the trip. A light breakfast of fruit and cereal bars, juice and coffee will be available upon your arrival. Lunch and of course dinner will be served in the hangar as well. The flight operations will be staffed beginning at 7am on to meet your arrival regardless of when you can get here. So, weather permitting, plan to join us at IXD, chapter 15, for a couple of days of fun flying. The weather should be superb both days.

Safe flying

August 28th, 2014

Hello everyone. Just a note to remind you that the aerobatic box over IXD will be open this Saturday, the 30th from 09:00 – 17:00.
We will gather at IXD, Signature Flight Support FBO, about 09:00 to place the box markers out and erect the sighting devices at the corners. Then we’ll fly. Also, we’d like to have as many volunteers as possible come out to the airport this Saturday for instructions on how to use sighting devices and boundary judge procedures.

I just got a note from John Morrissey saying that Steve Craig, IAC #15 member, offered his hotel, The Crown Plaza Hotel, at 95th and I-35, to contest participants for a special rate of $95/night. Call the Hotel at 913 217-1000. Do not call Crown Plaza/Holiday Inn central reservations. When you call the hotel, ask for ‘Reservations’. When ‘reservations’ answers, be certain to ask if you are speaking to the hotel itself, or central reservations. If the later, hang up, call back and request to talk only with the specific hotel reservations. When making your reservations, tell them you are with the IAC (use the acronym) and have been quoted the $95 rate. If there are any problems with this, let John know (816 582-6753).

We plan to have the box open Thursday, 4 September and Friday, 5 September for practice prior to the contest.

On another note; September 13 & 14 (Weekend after our contest) is the CAF Air Expo at New Century Airport. The CAF has invited IAC #15 to put up an information tent and aircraft static display on their ramp during the airshow. We will need volunteers to do that. Please indicate your availability to help with that event.

See you all in the air on Saturday

Chapter15 Aerobatic Box Open

August 20th, 2014

Hello everyone. Just a note to advise you that Chapter 15 will open the aerobatic box over New Century Airport (KIXD) this Saturday, August 23rd, from 9am to 4pm as well as the following Saturday, August 30th, in advance of the Harold Neumann Barnstormer Contest on September 5,6 & 7. This will give anyone planning to compete in the contest a chance to experience the IXD box prior to the contest. The box markers will be installed the morning of August 30th and the box opened thereafter. Also, we plan to open the box on Thursday, September 4th and Friday, the 5th just prior to the contest as well.

Another note of information for contestants coming from out of town; the Super8 hotel just off the airport property in Gardner Kansas is conventient to the contest and has a special rate for participants and volunteers. Rooms have been reserved for the contest there beginning Friday September 5th and Saturday the 6th . Call them at 913.856.8163 to reserve your room and mention the KC Aerobatic Club event. Also a little further away at the Great Mall is LaQuinta Inn & Suites; phone: 913.254.0111. No rooms have been reserved there, however they do have availability for the dates of the contest.

I know this is notice is a little late, but there did seem to be some interest in flying this weekend and next.

Best Regards and fly safe

Play Day Tomorrow

June 27th, 2014

Hello everyone. The weather forecast for our play day is somewhat questionable with showers forecast to be in the area later in the day. Now I’m no weather prognostikator, but we might find gusty winds out of the South and clouds bases around 3,500ft – 4,000ft around 10am. So, I believe we just might be able to get some flying done in the morning. I plan to open the box as scheduled at 09:00 hrs. Come on out to IXD and have a little nourishment and a cup of coffee. We’ll do our “low show” and try to keep it in the state of Kansas.

Fly-In & Play Day June 7th

June 1st, 2014

Hello everyone. I hope you had a safe and enjoyable memorial day holiday.

Just a reminder of our IAC Chapter 15 play-day to be held this Saturday, June 7th, at the New Century Airport and Signature FBO on the West side of the field. The aerobatic box over the airport will be open to all IAC member pilots from 09:00 hrs to 17:00 hrs. Area pilots and friends interested in learning about aerobatic flying and participating in IAC activities are invited to join us as well. We’ll have juice and fruit and cereal bars in the morning and Brats & Burgers ready to eat around high noon (food donations accepted). In case of an itinerate rain shower, there should be plenty of hangar space to take cover. So come on out and enjoy a fun day of flying.

Also a reminder for our contest pilots of the Seward, Ne. contest June 20th thru the 22nd. Put that date on your calendar as well.

Our next Chapter 15 meeting will be held June 23rd (the 4th Monday of the month) at the Signature Flight Support facility on the West side of the New Century Airport. Preparations for the Harold Newman contest will be on the agenda as well as a possible guest speaker. Plan to join us then as well.

See you Saturday
